Water Quality

Environmental Law & Natural Resources

Best Best &Krieger has represented clients in matters before the State Water Resources Control Board, numerous Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and other concerned state and federal agencies.

We understand the many challenges confronting modern-day water management organizations, and land managers, and the need to develop creative solutions to those challenges.

Best Best & Krieger LLP is widely known throughout the West for its Environmental Law and Natural Resources practice. Our water quality attorneys have extensive experience in permitting and compliance issues, enforcement matters and areas such as publicly owned treatment works, TMDLs, groundwater quality, waste discharge requirements and the water quality aspects of the California Environmental Quality Act.

Our lawyers regularly appear before the California Water Resources Control Board, the state’s Regional Water Quality Control Boards, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and in state and federal courts.

BB&K has assisted public agency and private industry clients in obtaining permits and maintaining compliance with applicable requirements for the treatment, storage and distribution of all types of water resources, including compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Clean Water Act and California’s Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act.

Our regulatory proficiency specifically includes matters related to the treatment, discharge and beneficial uses of recycled water, stormwater programs, discharge regulations, groundwater nitrate issues and groundwater remediation. In this regard, we routinely assist both private and public clients in meeting requirements for the construction, permitting, operation and maintenance of water treatment and reclamation facilities, including compliance with rules under Porter-Cologne and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.

Attorneys in our Water Quality group work closely with — and are often included in — our Water Rights group, ensuring that all our clients’ water supply law needs are met.
