A Fabric of Diversity

Our Diversity Brings Unique Insight

Best Best & Krieger’s culture is one that respects differences and recognizes unique perspectives. BB&K is committed to recruiting, hiring, developing, and promoting attorneys and staff of diverse backgrounds. Doing so makes good sense for our firm and our clients.

BB&K’s attorneys and staff represent a wide range of personal experiences, countries of origin, ages, religions and gender. In May 2016, Law360 ranked the firm No. 35 on its list of the Top 100 Firms for Minority Attorneys and No. 12 on the national publication’s list of Top 50 Firms for Minority Partners.

For two years in a row, BB&K appears on Law360’s list of the 100 Best Law Firms for Female Attorneys — ranking No. 13 in 2016. In addition, BB&K was recognized in 2015 by Law360 on its “Ceiling Smashers” report for being No. 14 on the list of the top 25 U.S. law firms — out of 300 surveyed — for having the highest percentage of female partners. The previous year, BB&K was ranked No. 13.

In June 2016, BB&K was ranked No. 5 on the National Law Journal’s Women in Law Scorecard. The ranking is based on the number of female attorneys, with extra weight given to the number of female partners, among the nation’s 350 largest law firms.

Within our firm, this means working in a diverse environment that reflects the communities, organizations, businesses and individuals we represent, fostering mutual respect and collaboration.

The value of diversity for our clients comes from the melding of differing experiences, cultures, talents, viewpoints, and styles to drive creative and innovative solutions. Our diversity allows us to leverage different perspectives to approach complex legal issues in a way that provides the best outcome for our clients.

With those goals in mind, BB&K encourages qualified applicants of every race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, non-job related physical disability or medical condition, marital status, sex or sexual orientation to apply for employment with the firm.

First Year Law Student Diversity Fellowship/Scholarship Program

BB&K is pleased to offer a First Year Law Student Diversity Fellowship/Scholarship Program.  This program will provide the recipient with a paid summer associate position in one of our participating offices.  To qualify for the $7,500 academic scholarship, the recipient student selected must be invited and must return to BB&K for its second year summer program.  The $7,500 scholarship will be paid following completion of the student’s second summer with BB&K. This year's application posting is closed.

Recruitment

One of the firm’s ongoing recruitment goals is to increase the diversity of our attorneys and staff.  We have a diverse Recruiting Committee and staff that actively look for opportunities to attract individuals with a wide range of backgrounds to our firm at the summer clerk, entry- level and lateral hire levels.

Professional Development

We provide professional development and mentoring programs with sensitivity to the diverse needs of all participants.  We also support our attorneys’ outside professional development opportunities, including membership in diversity-minded organizations.

Promotion

BB&K fosters a culture where opportunities for success are available to everyone.  To this point, the majority of our partners joined the firm right out of law school and successfully developed their careers exclusively at BB&K.  Associates are eligible for consideration for partnership in their eighth year.  They have a voice at BB&K, allowing them to actively contribute to firm administration and decision-making.  Annual assessments allow us to chart a path for continuous improvement in diversity.
