LOS ANGELES – Nowland C. Hong, who is of counsel at Best Best & Krieger LLP, was recently given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association. He is one of the founding members of the SCCLA and has served twice as its president.

Hong has practiced law for more than five decades in Los Angeles. He is a litigator who has represented major public agencies, districts and private corporate and individual clients in complex litigation, class actions and representative suits encompassing a wide range of issues. One of his most high-profile matters was representing a developer in the litigation that followed the mass fire at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas, reaching the first and lowest settlement of any defendant in the large case.

Hong began his legal career as a deputy in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office before going into private practice. He is graduate of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.

The award was given at the SCCLA’s 41st Annual Installation & Awards Banquet on April 8. Other honorees included Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elaine Wu, Walt Disney Company Assistant Chief Counsel Edward W. Lew and Hon. Margaret M. Morrow (Ret.), who is president and CEO of Public Counsel. Please join us in congratulating Hong and all the honorees.
