Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Cynthia Germano discusses the legalities surrounding the Fair Pay Act, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Oct. 6, with the Riverside Press-Enterprise. The new law aims to close gender-based wage gaps.

Cynthia told the newspaper she believes the amendment will give more teeth to the labor code prohibiting discrimination and pay based on gender.

“This bill definitely is gauged to make it easier for people to seek remedy under the act,” she said. Until now, the law limited comparisons to the same establishment. “So, if I’m a female working in a plant in Riverside, they can ask, ‘How much is a male making in a plant in Los Angeles?’ to make comparisons on their wage.”
