Dorothy R. McLaughlin advises clients on state and federal laws governing students with disabilities. She provides representation regarding services and accommodations required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Before joining Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Riverside office, Dorothy served as a career law clerk to the Honorable Sheri Pym, United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California, focusing on habeas corpus petitions from state and federal prisoners, pro se civil rights cases and appeals in Social Security disability cases.
Prior to that, Dorothy was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California in the Riverside Branch Office. As an AUSA, Dorothy collaborated with federal and local law enforcement agencies to prosecute federal crimes including assault, attempted murder, financial fraud, narcotics and public corruption. Dorothy tried multiple cases in federal court and argued criminal appeals before the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Riverside branch office included a stint as deputy chief of the office, supervising junior prosecutors.
After earning her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law, Dorothy clerked for the Hon. Dana Fabe of the Supreme Court of Alaska and the Hon. Ronald L. Gilman of the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Dorothy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. She lives in Riverside with her husband and two children.
