Joseph Sanchez is a partner in the Education and Labor and Employment practice groups of BB&K. Mr. Sanchez serves as labor and employment counsel for numerous school districts and other public agencies. Mr. Sanchez has significant experience in representing school districts including Beverly Hills Unified School District, San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego Community College District, and El Centro Elementary School District.

Mr. Sanchez advises school districts on a variety of labor and employment issues including employee discipline and termination (certificated and classified), family medical leave laws, wage and hour issues, disability leaves, equal employment opportunity laws, certificated and classified layoffs, employee benefits, and issues related to the collective bargaining process. Mr. Sanchez also represents public agencies in various administrative hearings and proceedings including grievance arbitrations, discipline appeal hearings, layoff hearings, and before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). Mr. Sanchez also serves as lead labor negotiator for several public agencies.

Mr. Sanchez also conducts a variety of trainings for his clients including Sexual Harassment Avoidance, Labor Relations, and Employee Use of Social Networking Websites.

Prior to joining BB&K in 2006, Mr. Sanchez was a Deputy City Attorney for the City of San Diego. Mr. Sanchez represented and advised City departments and the City Council on a wide range of labor and employment issues. He represented the City before the Civil Service Commission, the Public Employment Relations Board, and served as legal advisor to the City during the collective bargaining process. Mr. Sanchez also served as lead legal advisor to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and San Diego Medical Services LLC.
