James Gilpin is a partner with Best Best & Krieger LLP. Mr. Gilpin practices in civil litigation with an emphasis on real property litigation including eminent domain, construction and other public works litigation. He has represented clients in all phases of litigation including writ proceedings, jury and court trials, and appeals. Mr. Gilpin serves as the office managing partner to the firm’s San Diego office.
Mr. Gilpin is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Inns of Court, and International Right of Way Association. Mr. Gilpin served as a legal consultant to the Appraisal Institute in the development of Appraisal Course 710 (Eminent Domain - Part A) and has served as an instructor to the International Right of Way Association on the subject of eminent domain. Mr. Gilpin served as the chairperson for the Eminent Domain Section of the San Diego County Bar Association
Mr. Gilpin received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming in 1990 where he was a Case Notes Editor for the Land & Water Law Review, and Order of the Coif. Mr. Gilpin has also completed the Trial Advocacy Skills Program at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Mr. Gilpin is admitted to practice in California and Colorado. Mr. Gilpin completed his undergraduate education at the University of Wyoming in 1985.
