Sigrid K. Asmundson

Of Counsel

Sigrid Asmundson is part of the Municipal Law practice group of Best Best & Krieger LLP and provides general and special counsel services to numerous public agencies throughout California. She serves as general counsel for the Cosumnes Community Services District.

Ms. Asmundson provides advice on all aspects of governing a public agency including the Brown Act/Open Meeting Law, conflict of interest laws and disclosure of public records. Additionally, Ms. Asmundson specializes in elections law as well as economic development and redevelopment agency dissolution, with a focus on affordable housing, land use and commercial development.  Ms. Asmundson has lectured on the Political Reform Act, local officials’ ethics (AB 1234), economic development and elections law.

Ms. Asmundson received her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Asmundson served as a Senior Notes and Comments editor on the U.C. Davis Law Review, where she received the Patrick J. Hopkins Award for best student article of the year for her article evaluating the negative effects on local governments based on the 2003 case, Department of Finance v. Commission on State Mandates (2003) 30 Cal. 4th 727 (published as “AB 1234: The Rise of the Unfunded Mandate” (2006) Vol. 29, No. 2 Public L. J. 9.”) Prior to attending law school, Ms. Asmundson worked on multiple campaigns at the local and state level in various areas, including election campaigns for school board, city council, and California assembly candidates, general and special tax measures, bond measures, and initiatives. Ms. Asmundson also has extensive experience working for both local and state government. Ms. Asmundson graduated from the University of California, Davis with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Political Science and Communications.
